Please come with unglazed bisque ware pieces less than 6 inches wide. MadisonMud will provide the glazes. Come early to allow for multiple layers of glaze and time for them to dry.  (Feel free to use your own glazes) Because of the nature of the process, we cannot guarantee every piece will be a success. (but isn't that what we love about being clay artists)

Handbuilt Teapots
Thurs. July 6 & July 13; 6:30pm-9:30pm

Clay artist Maddie Berry will help you create a unique teapot using slabs, coils and textures. Traditional or Whimsical..whatever you can conjure up. This is a TWO session workshop. You may return to glaze your teapot and a later time. No Clay experience necessary

BIG POT WORKSHOP
July 15th-July 16; 12:30pm-3:30pm

Join Clay Artist and resident "Big Pot Guy" Anthony Urango for a 2 day workshop concentrating on BIG POTS. Tired of the 2 lb bowls? Have enough mugs? Struggling to GO BIGGER? This workshop is for you.

Saturday learn to prepare clay for larger vessels, center and throw larger than your safe zone. Sunday return to Madison Mud to trim, build and embellish the largest pots you've ever made.  Return at your own leisure to glaze.

Experience in throwing necessary. Must be able to center clay with ease and be competent in the basics of throwing a cylinder

Workshop includes clay, use of tools, glazes and firing of 2 large pots. Additional firing fees will apply to additional pots of .04 cents/cubic inch

CRACKED POTS WORKSHOP
Sunday August 13; 12:30pm-3:30pm

Love texture?
Wonder how artists has enough patience to carve all those lines?
Secret revealed: Sodium Silicate! 
Spend the afternoon with clay artist and Madison Mud Owner, Melanie Tomaszewski throwing pots and "cracking them" with Sodium Silicate, Slip and a heat gun! Have fun experimenting with this cool techhnique.

Workshop includes 10lbs of clay, materials, firing fees and glaze. Each attendee goes goes home with their own pint of Sodium Silicate to keep the experimentation going! Return to glaze at your leisure.

Some throwing experience is required

Animal Workshop
Sat July 22-Sun July 23; 12:30pm-3:30pm

Handbuild you favorite animal or pet. Clay Artist Maddie Berry will help you create a realistic or caricature, recreation of an animal of your choice. Bring in a photo of what you would like to create.  First day, create the foundation of the animal using slabs and pinch pots. On Sunday add the details & textures that will bring it to life. Emphasis will be on form, gesture and texture.

Project will be approx 8" to 12" in height. We can dip glaze it for you or you can return at a later date to handglaze it.

Mocha Diffusion Workshop
Saturday July 29; 12:30pm-3:30pm

Science and Clay go hand in hand. Create organic designs on your pots with the help of clay artist Anthony Urango and some acid. Mocha Diffusion is a pottery painting technique that involves a chemical reaction between an acid and a base liquid.

Artists will throw or hand build creations, while pieces are setting up you will be able to experiment on provided slabs. You will speed up the process with some heat and VOILA! watch the designs grow with science! 

Workshop includes 10lbs of clay, materials, firing fees and glaze.  Return to glaze at your leisure. Members will leave with a printed instruction sheet to keep on "mocha-ing" We suggest a clear or transparent glaze.  This is NOT a wheel throwing lesson, If you choose to decorate throw pieces, experience is necessary. Handbuilding: no exp necessary
